Kids can be intimidating and even after professional training handling a class filled with students can be tough. Don’t freak out those tips will come in handy in your day-to-day life for sure.

Here are 7 things new teachers should know before entering a class for the very first time:

  • Be Well-Organized
Being organized is crucial! The first thing you should do is organize everything- from your drawer to your file cabinet to everything in class that is yours. Not only being well organized makes you look confident but it gives you a “boost” to do well.
  • Never Yell
Yelling never made things better especially with young kids. Teaching a class can be very stressful at the time, some students do a prank, or create disturbance just to annoy you. Menachem Moscovitz says that keep in mind that they are just kids and never yell at them.
  • What can you do?

Take them out of the class and have a one-on-one chat and make them understand what they did wrong.
  • Write Down Every Good Idea
Good ideas can pop at any time, try to write it down the second it appears. Who knows what great idea can change the way you teach and you can even pass these ideas to your fellow teachers.
  • Always Stick to a Routine
If you have a good lesson routine that works out perfectly for you and your class- stick to it! Menachem Moscovitz says that as soon as you figure out what routine/method is working for you the better.
  • Be Patient
Patience is the key to be a good teacher. When you start your job as a teacher being patient can seem tricky and exhausting. But, when you practice it regularly it gets easier with the time.

Do not get frustrated with students for not keeping up with you. Or, never get mad at yourself for not making it clear enough. It will happen but at the moment be patient.
  • Socialize with Other Teachers
This tip is very significant for new teachers especially those who have reserved personalities. Communicate with other teachers, try to hold conversations that can guide you in class management and other things.

You can learn a lot from your fellow teachers. New teachers should always connect with other teachers this way they can improve themselves and can know more about different teaching techniques.
  • Decorate Your Classroom
Decorate your classroom wall with inspiring thoughts, it can be related to anything. Reading a positive message first thing when you and students enter the classroom gives a sense of self-inspiration, motivation, and creates a more positive environment.

You can ask students to create charts, or drawings as well. But, try to keep the decoration to a minimum level as too many colors can distract students.
